This listing of¬†advertisement of Maremma Sheepdogs is for informational purposes only and in no way represents an endorsement of these breeders by the Maremma Sheepdog Club of America. When making inquiries for purchasing a pup, the MSCA strongly recommends selecting from sound, proven, working dogs who have been tested and cleared for hip dysplasia. We suggest you ask to visit the breeder’s farm or ask to see photos or videos of both parents and the pups living with and guarding livestock. It is recommended that you purchase a pup who has been raised with the kinds of livestock you raise. Ask the breeder for clear instructions on how to bond your pup to livestock when he arrives at his new farm.

Good questions to ask a prospective breeder are:

  • Do you offer lifetime breeder support and assistance with behaviour or training issues?
  • Do you take back any pup for any reason, should the buyer no longer be able to keep the pup?
  • Are the parents health tested and clear for dysplasia?
  • Do the parents have any temperament issues? Do they get along with other dogs on the farm? Are they okay with people?
  • Have the pups been exposed to other farm dogs, people, or children?
